After having time to think about it, from an arm chair QB position, I think the next gen xbox should branding wise make a clean break from Series S/X and totally be its own thing. I'm talking new OS, new UI, new controller, everything. In alot of circles, the Series S/X does not seem like a new console gen but a continuation of Xbox One gen and I can see their point. And you don't want to constantly remind people of the X1 gen. Make a clean break and introduce consumers to the new xbox. My 2 cents.

100% on this, they should make sure everything is BC-ready and not of that cross-gen stuff on the same software. It should be if you buy one you get the upgrade for free.

This one should be a completely new experience and still retain the titles from the old.
Do something that ONLY MS can do that SONY doesn't have or can't mimic. Let's be honest, the only reason why Sony is bigger now is due to MS dropping the ball so badly.

Everything else SONY has copied almost everything from MS. Xbox needs to do something so different that it becomes cool again.

Not sure what Xbox is thinking right now tbh.
They release games on their biggest competitors platform... okay, fine.
Then goes on and makes those games better graphically and performance wise in most cases... then they go out and tweet that they FINALLY can release games on other platforms (who told them not to? ). Who in their right mind buys an Xbox next gen? For what? Power...? They've had multiplatform games performing worse (and now even their own games lol) for two generations. Exclusives ...? You can play them on PlayStation finally according to them lol.
The only thing you get is gamespass... that's it... and if you buy a PC you can have it AND some playstation "exclusives".
Somethings up at MS, they can't possible be this r******d that they don't see what the internet and media says about their recent public communication.

At times it's like MS and the heads at Xbox are ashamed of the Xbox brand.
SoT should do better but it still seems to be a flop in regards to Rush, Grounded and Pentiment on other platforms.

They are not ashamed, just got tired of the status quo from last gen. They have decided to pivot to just revenue growth by growing on other platforms like PC, mobile and Playstation which will bring in a lot more revenue to sustain their expensive purchases.

They will subsidize their next gen hardware for software sales and services like Gamepass but having acquired Zenimax and ATVI there is no way in hell they can keep up and sustain putting just all those big titles day 1 on the Xbox console and further cannibalize sales and PC Gamepass with an already saturated Gamepass userbase when those two publishers have always enjoyed getting a majority of their sales on other platforms. Even MS sees this and I applaud them for being brave enough to do this change. Sony is doing the same with live service games even more with the success of Helldivers 2 on PC.

MS doesn’t need to sustain their acquisition of Activision. The $68 billion never left their balance sheet. Activision is making a half billion in profit in a quarter on $2 billion in revenue during a quarter. Xbox is also profitable and Game Pass is profitable and sustainable as it is.

Sony is following suit by acquiring studios and publishers, putting their games on other consoles, PCs, streaming devices like TV, and mobile day one. They realized they had diminishing profits and already said that they need 3rd party games to subsidize building 1st party games. Microsoft’s Call of Duty is a game that Sony relied upon to build first party games. I applaud Sony for doing this as well.
