Rumors suggest that NVIDIA is set to unveil and reveal initial details about the upcoming GeForce RTX 40 SUPER graphics cards in a ‘Special Address’ during CES 2024 on January 8th. This speculation has circulated ever since the company confirmed its intentions to host this event. The latest information indicates that the company may introduce first SUPER cards just nine days after the announcement, with at least one SKU scheduled for release.

According to reports, the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER is anticipated to make its debut on January 17th, followed by the release of the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER a week later. The final addition to the RTX 40 SUPER lineup, the RTX 4080 SUPER, is rumored to hit shelves on January 31st. It appears that NVIDIA plans to stagger the release of each model, spacing them out on a weekly basis.

Maybe wait for these to launch so you can get the older model for cheaper @Zer0beaT

I'm good with my EVGA 1070ti.

I went off PC gaming now that I have the XSX, my PC is a beast for everything else though.

It's my father who's building a system right now, and he probably doesn't need a dedicated graphics card, but maybe a couple years from now he does do that even though he's not a gamer.

We'll see.

My own system is maxed out pretty much, other than the GPU, but I won't gain anything from a new one I don't even have a 4k TV.

Explain to me as if I were five, how are these better than the current ones? And or should I wait?

@Zer0beaT the 2tb 990 pros are back down to 179.99 at Best Buy, with the heat sink, 184.99 with heatsink.

When I checked Amazon they seem to be their party sellers asking for 256 to 265 without the heat sink.

Super should be faster than the vanilla ones out now but at the same price at launch. Then the Vanilla models will drop in price.

So it should be 4070 < 4070 ti < 4070 Super < 4080 < 4080 Super < 4090

May wait for that 4070/80 super, or which ever one is also more power efficient….

Apparently the 4070 super is significantly faster than the 4070 vanilla in comparison to the 4080 super which is rumoured to be smaller improvement compared to vanilla 4080.

NVIDIA launches GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series: $999 RTX 4080S, $799 RTX 4070 TiS and $599 RTX 4070S

NVIDIA Founders Edition cards for some of the latest GPUs have been sent out to reviewers. The RTX 4070 SUPER and 4080 SUPER are among these models set to receive this reference edition.

In terms of pricing, the RTX 4080 SUPER is slated to be priced at $999, which is $200 less than the launch price of the non-SUPER version, RTX 4080. NVIDIA appears to be confirming earlier speculations that the RTX 4080S and 4070TiS will replace the current models in their product lineup. The updated chart no longer includes references to these specific SKUs.

The RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is set to take the place of the RTX 4070 Ti non-SUPER at a price point of $799. Simultaneously, the RTX 4070 SUPER is expected to be priced at $599 in retail, while the existing non-SUPER model is officially confirmed to have a revised MSRP of $599.

As we saw before, NVIDIA is focusing on the performance of their shaders, ray tracing, and tensor cores instead of their CUDA core specs. Nevertheless, NVIDIA RTX 4080 SUPER is to feature 10240 CUDA cores, 16GB GDDR6X memory (23 Gbps) and TGP (Total Graphics Power) of 320W. But NVIDIA claims that this model will actually require only around 246W when playing and 15W when idle. NVIDIA marketing claims that this card offers “4K Full RT Gaming and Super-Fast Gen AI” but also 2x the performance of RTX 3080Ti (more on that in the paragraph below). The RTX 4080 SUPER will launch on January 31.

The RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is to feature 8448 CUDA cores and 16GB GDDR6X memory. While it ships with a TGP of 285W, the average gaming power is estimated at 226W and 12W when the card is idle. The memory upgrade is undoubtedly the most noteworthy feature of this SKU. NVIDIA claims that RTX 4070 Ti SUPER will offer “2.5x the performance of RTX 3070 Ti”, but one should not be deceived, as this data is referring to DLSS Frame Generation support in some titles. Officially, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER launches on January 24th.

Anyone that bought a 4080 recently must feel like a sucker right now, the real winners are the ones that bought a 4090 😅

Since 4090 prices are still high, I've been debating on selling my 4090 and moving to a 4080 Super, I honestly don't utilize all of the horsepower or VRAM a 4090 delivers but could use the extra cash to fund some other projects. Decisions decisions.

How much would you save if you bought the super 4080?

Is it worth the buying selling and all that in between ?

Looking at the what used 4090s have recently sold for on eBay, I would probably net around 700-900 bucks profit after selling the 4090, and buying a 4080 Super. Which would definitely fund my next project in full and have a nice dinner or two afterwards.
