I haven't been on the forum all evening, so if this has been posted here, i didn't see it, but if so...my bad. I was quite happy about the majority being positive X1 reviews, less, much less happy about that it (hopefully temporarily) doesn't support Dolby Digital 5.1. Even though for me it will be solved, cause i have a receiver that supports DTS, but for people who don't and use headphones too, it's very bad news. That said...If this doesn't belong here, please do move it.

On another Xbox forum i saw and read a few things and i don't like it. I would care less if i wasn;t using a projector and gaming on a 110inch screen. But on such a screen this WILL stand out:

In motion both consoles look pretty good. You really start to see the PS4’s resolution/AA advantages at the very end of the sequence though (PS4 image sample, Xbox One image sample). The difference between these two obviously isn’t as great as from the 360 to Xbox One, but there is a definite resolution advantage to the PS4. It’s even more obvious if you look at our aliasing test:

^ I don't get it. Both versions are 1080p. I guess the anti-aliasing wasn't added....

And these i especially really don't like. I honestly did not expect a difference this big. Hopefully soon Gamersyde gets some footage up of both and then we can see if it really is this bad. I didn't like it when a multipatform game on PS3 looked noticeably less this generation and thus i didn't buy it, and now i really dont like it if this is truly the difference, what am i saying....if this isn't made by some troll who wants to make X1 look bad...the differences are undeniable and quite big. It would also mean those few developers that said the difference between X1 and PS4 was even smaller than PS3 and 360, were lying.

Yes, 1080p makes a difference in the image quality... much more crisp and less blurry. But of course Xbox only fans would never know the difference unless they looked it up on the internet so I don't think it will become a problem for them.

I'm also curious as to whether the worse-looking aliasing on the Xbox One will be a recurring theme for the years to come.

where is astro? I want him to explain to me.. why KI is 720p along with BF4, COD, Dead Rising 3, (Titanfall) rumor.. and with the forza 5 downgrade it's not looking good..I thought we were not gona see the ps4 power advantage :p

Definitely sucks that the PS4 gets the superior versions, but its not enough to make me ditch the X1 over the PS4. At least not yet...

So, its been stated many times that devs will get better in the development of these games on XO. These are launch games people!.....LAUNCH GAMES!! Oiy...

I know McMasters, but it does worry me, i can't help it. It seems to be an anti-aliasing problem X1 is coping with. I just saw the direct download video of Forza 5 from Eurogamer and even there is clearly aliasing noticeable and hell, i never ever really noticed aliasing in Forza before. Killzone on the other hand for example is much better when it comes to AA. I just hate severe aliasing, i believe everyone does and again, especially on them big screens its going to be showing. I really want to believe Flynn and MS in general when they say it will get better, but for the launch titles it just sucks. Except for Ryse, i don't see aliasing. But we're talking about Crytek then.

Moreso than just talking about Crytek, your speaking on what the XO is capable of. Relax mate. Besides: out of every review thusfar on the XO launch line up, how many actually mentioned how important resolutions were or even brought up resolutions? I havent seen one. Not one mate.....

The Xone is getting crap reveiws man .....looks like I'm going steambox

Well Anandtech also says this at the start of their minireview and analysis:

For the most part I haven’t noticed huge differences in frame rate between Xbox One and PS4 versions of the same game, but I have noticed appreciable differences in resolution/AA. This could very well be the One’s ROP limitations coming into play. Quality per pixel seems roughly equivalent across consoles, the PS4 just has an easier time delivering more of those pixels.

I guess time will tell, i wanna be optimistic but still.

To be fair though....i watched all the footage of CoD on that page, it's all Youtube videos, but i didn't notice that big-ass difference at all. A bit more aliasing, but that crazy difference you see in the gifs i REALLY don't see at all. Could maybe be that Youtube videos mask/hide that a bit, and that you would see it on direct feed uncompressed videos much better. In the Youtube footage however it is in no way as bad as those CoD gifs.

I read several impressions in French from game journalists who had had hands on experience with Forza 5 in Paris who loved the gorgeous graphics in 1080p and the rock solid 60 FPS. Anyone having panic attacks, this late in the game, should just get a PS4. Tech bloggists and Industry insiders(with names, no less!) have predicted that this will be the last console generation, which means this is the last of the hardware (primarily) dedicated to gaming. So, Microsoft decided to skip this generation entirely, and release Xbox One, instead. It's the wave of the future; a preview of things to come. What we will be playing games on ten years from now will do a lot of other things, some novel, some mundane, that have absolutely nothing to do with gaming. It's a terrifying future to the hardcore crowd who ran screaming from it at E3, who are now cradling and crooning to their tiny PS4s, lovingly stroking the blooms in it's cheap plastic casing--but then the firstborn always do get the most attention.

Jaggies...on a COD game mind you. ;)

I don't like jaggies either, I think they ruin the fluidity of the game, but hopefully this is just a launch issue. Quake 4 on the Xbox 360 had HORRID clipping issues in comparison to its PC counterpart. Not to mention, COD2 also had horrible jaggies on the 360 at launch in comparison to its PC counterpart.

It's a launch issue. Ravensoft who ported Quake 4 over to the 360 had admitted they were given very little time to optimize the 360 development kits.

If you take a launch game from 360 and compare it to one today...there's huge differences.

Oh lord.

If you guys want the best possible looking console multiplatform games. Get the PS4. SImple as that.

Multiplatform games generally do the bare minimum to get their engines running across multiple platforms and won't take specific advantage of either system. PS4 is a more straight forward architect and has a more powerful GPU.

Not sure why it has to be discussed further....there is always a more powerful system every gen...it doesn't change the fact that they have their own strengths and weaknesses and aren't sold simply on power. Is it clear Xbox One launch games suffered a bit cause of late development tools (and as multiple people have reported, early ESRAM issues in the SDK)? Sure...most likely why 3rd party teams either went sub 1080p or lacking some AA.

Are you going to care while playing? Totally up to you...but if you haven't made that decision as of yet...get on it girlfriend.

This is coming from a N64 and PS2 owner. THough with the expansion pack, N64 wasn't all too shabby. Resident Evil in particular:

Memories!

Pretty much my thoughts. Better exclusives that I'm more interested in outweigh slightly better looking multiplats.

As long as MS keeps the good games coming, I'm happy.

And why do people keep saying the Xbox doesn't support 5.1 surround sound? I thought that was only limited to HDMI in and optical.

holy sh!t if that's NBA 2K14 on the X1 I wouldn't even bother getting it. I have it on the PS4 and notice jaggies and it makes the courts have a haze look to them. The lighting sucks on the courts and make them look fake, and with the lighting on the court and the jaggies on the PS4 I swear it's like I'm playing in the summer heat.

It could be me...but what other ways are there for DD 5.1 ? I sure don't know.

Xbox supports DD 5.1 and DTS Master via HDMI. Optical right now doesn't support it for whatever reason. Could be coming in a patch later...maybe not. But effects me this does not.

Know what's sort of funny and doesn't make sense and screams to me driver problem or STB confliction. It supports DTS on the optical side, but not DD.

As long as sound will come out of my TV I'm all set.

didn't even realize that....so a problem with people with DD headphones or really old receivers.

Just because the ps4 is more powerful doesnt mean the One cant have good looking games. People should not have unrealistic expectations though, should be obvious that there will be differences between the two. You would have to be delusional to think the ps4 will not outperform in multiplatforms in some way.

Ah, yeah, I guess. Though I have neither system ordered / pre-ordered, I guess I'm a fan boy for being skeptical of anything shown on the Internet. From faulty Digital Foundry captures comparing Battlefield 4 on both systems to Call of Duty Ghosts, in fact, running at a native 720p resolution on both systems during the review cycle despite almost every single reviewer claiming a significant resolution advantage for the PS4 version, I'm going to judge these games for myself (which, again, is hard to do considering I have neither console currently on the way). Besides, I've seen what the Xbox One is capable of with both Forza 5 and Ryse, and the console is plenty capable, IMO.

Watching the unmolested videos of Battlefield 4 shows, to me at least, that both versions are virtually identical, with the Xbox One version looking more vibrant and "clear," at least IMO (though nothing like what the screen grabs noted, I'll add). Need for Speed looks virtually identical on both systems, too, with, at least according to the IGN footage (which was piss poor, I'll admit), the Xbox One version looking "clearer" in some instances. And, despite running at a lower native resolution, Call of Duty Ghosts apparently runs better on Xbox One than the PS4 version, which suffers from an occasional, stuttering frame rate.

Here is an example of the BS shown on the Internet, and thus why I'm skeptical of anything shown and / or claimed.

As I've stated multiple times before, all of this will be moot once the systems are out in full force. I believe multiplatform games will run at parity and all of the nonsense will, hopefully, be over and done with. You are not going to go wrong whether you choose an Xbox One, a Playstation 4, both or neither. :)

Surely, you jest.

Friday can't come soon enough. I've had about all this cold feet freakiness I can take. You'd think some of these guys were reconsidering getting married.

Welcome to reality.

But honestly, get whatever system has the games you want. If you don't mind worse looking multiplats then get the Xbox. No need to panic if it doesn't bother you.

Yeah.....well the PS4 is more powerful.
That is what is going to happen.

However it isn't like the power gulf between the Xbox & PS2. Xb1 multiplat games will still look damn good compared to PS4 versions....just slightly worse.
Exclusives will be the real tell on these consoles....and at launch both systems have demonstrated graphical powerhouses (Ryse), and (killzone).

You guys are all insane, glad I am skipping this gen and went fully PC and don't have to second guess if I am getting the best version of the game.
