What movies have you seen recently?

I’ve always enjoyed Predator 2.

How was Late Night With the Devil?

I liked it, but didn't love it. it keeps flipping between two different formats (film from the show which looks dated and "behind the scenes" footage which looks 100% like a 2024 movie, didn't feel like footage but more like a movie, and seemed jarringly out of place. Still well made and worth a watch. It's streaming on Shudder now.

For horror movies with similar plots / formats, I prefer Ghostwatch and the WNUF Halloween Special.

The First Omen - Good

I saw it in a completely empty theater. I was the only one there. Was a pretty cool experiencing a horror movie with me being the only one in the entire theater.
Not sure how these theaters stay open. We had a brand new Marcus theater open in our city like 9 years ago, and it was PACKED. My wife and I were at a movie a month ago, and her and I were the only two in our auditorium, and there must have been maybe 20 cars total outside. They have 14 auditoriums in there. That is 1.42 person per auditorum.

Its a dying industry with maybe 5 years left in it as it currently operates. The family and I used to go regularly. Now i just wait for the digital release. Those times are getting shorter and shorter. 6 weeks for Dune part 2...
When I was growing up, the theaters only had 1 screen. Thats the most likely coming scenario, back to single screen theaters. Then only AAA titles will be shown. Back in the day the big movies would be in teh theaters for months sometimes...

Yeah I don’t see how big theaters with multiple screens make enough profit year around to stay open especially with streaming services and on demand rentals at home. I still love going to the movies for certain films when I have time, but I don’t see how the theater industry can last outside of big blockbuster event films.

Alien 45th anniversary special in the theater. Still the best Alien.

There was a cool conversation piece between Ridley and new Alien Romulus director, Fede, at the beginning.

I didn’t remember until I rewatched that it was a different actor in part 3.

Yeah, I wasn't thrilled with that. Also crazy that it was from the same director as Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps, as it's a major step down from both of those.

I watched the Korean War pilot film Devotion the other day. It was really damn good. I read some of the Top Gun crew worked on this and it shows. It looked amazing. Cast was good in this. Watched it on Paramount+.

Never thought I'd get it in my 40's.
f***! I should probably get that shot eh?45 here.

Never had chicken pox........I better look into it pronto. My 20 yr old nephew got it last year and still isn't quite right.

Hope you get better soon!

Dune Part Two

I felt like I watched something truly momentous - like something so significant. What power that film had. Almost like the same feeling of weight when you have a vivid dream; when you wake up, it's hard to realize that none of it matters and that it wasn't real.

Watching the original Star Wars trilogy of films on D+ today. They do look and sound amazing, but wish we could watch the theatrical cuts without the changes. Haven’t seen those since I was younger.
Is it fact or just speculation that they aren't allowed to release them as part of their original deal with Lucas?

Can we settle for the original special edition changes and get rid of the newer ones like where Vader yells no before saving Luke? Its such a dumb change that it makes you wonder how Lucas ever did anything right.

That yell pisses me off so much that I nearly refuse to ever watch it again.

I believe Disney doesn’t include them on D+ out of respect to Lucas, he wanted the changes. It has never been confirmed if Lucas put that in the contract when they bought SW. I saw you can get the editions on DVD with the theatrical releases for $30-$40 each on Amazon. The quality isn’t very good though.

They do have the theatrical cuts in 4K quality now that was done by some Star Wars fans that got ahold of the actual theatrical print of the films and they restored them. Supposedly you can get 4K disc copies from them, all they ask for is donations they can’t actually sale them.

I remember growing up in the 90’s one of the networks USA, TNT, or TBS would run a marathon of the original SW films (theatrical cut). I’d watch it anytime it was on.
